LITERACY MOVEMENT
Description/Overview
¿Entiende lo que estoy diciendo? Well, do you?
Maybe yes, maybe no. ELL or LEP students not only have difficulty orally speaking English, but with reading and writing as well. In a lesson, teachers must be aware of ELL levels of proficiency in the English language. It is the only way they can ultimately learn and understand the English language. The objectives, differentiation, the bulk of the lesson and the assessments must cater to the learning and language levels of every student. Otherwise, students in that class will have a low successful rate. It is in the Education 360, that we learned how to navigate ourselves and our students through their learning process.
Skills Gained
In lesson planning, we as future students have to cater to the learning needs and literacy levels of every student. The skills we gained from our field experience as well as our own classroom would be importance of time as well as the necessary information a teacher must teach his students to learn enough based off the curriculum standards. We also encourage students to practice their English outside the school environment. Doing some evolves their understand with the language with outside society as well as their parents.
Lessons Learned
I am currently applying the knowledge, insights and skills I have learned from this experience to my field experience at In-Tech. I notice how teachers adjust most of their learning segments and assessments based of literacy levels. This helps students to both understand and slowly integrate into learning the English language. With classroom aids, the teachers have some assistance in catering to different literacy and learning levels within the classroom. Though it can still be difficult, teachers and aids have the capabilities, experience and bond with their students that increase their chances of understanding.
Impact/Importances
When it comes to the affect I have had on others, it is not only towards the students I worked with at In-Tech Academy, but also my peers and family. This learning experience has definitely impacted me on such a high level, that I feel like I have changed the most this semester. It is through my experiences and my knowledge, that I feel I have come to a level of true understanding when it pertains to literacy.
